Day one: The day started with feeding happy kids in the island with hot Arroz Caldo sponsored by Kindred Nomads. After an hour volunteers had the chance to play with them, it was then followed by the handing over of the 5000PhP initial grant for the out of school youth seaweeds farmer, in which they promise that income upon harvest shall be use to support their education through Alternative Learning System. The volunteer groups was also oriented by Local Leader ‘’Toti’’ and the seaweed farmer about the process of seaweeds farming as well as its ecological and economic importance. The day ended up with sunset yoga activity lead by Yoga Sugbu group.Before dinner time the Kids were entertain by a movie presentation from Quota International-Cebu.
Day 2: Early morning, a sunrise yoga activity is done by the beach on the second day, while the Seaweeds farmer happily laid align the seaweeds for planting on the coastline. Local leaders and other stakeholders were gathered together for a brief discussion on mangrove education, awareness and coastal management.
Volunteers and the locals in the community with the kids proceed to gather in the beach to start the coastal clean-up and once again proved their being ‘’Island Trash Warrior Heroes’’. After the surroundings were free of trash, volunteers were able to swim and have take advantage the chance noting that Gilutongan Island is one of the top tourist Destination across Mactan Island.
It was indeed another successful activity initiated by the organizer SEED4COM, we would like to extend our warmest gratitude to all who fully support this endeavor starting from the first Eco Camp held on the same island a month ago. Among the group that participated are: Quota International, Rotary Club – Mandaue East , Kindred Nomad Project ,Yoga Sugbu, Cebu Youth Ambassadors (CYA), Youth for a Better Earth (YABE)and the individual volunteers from different parts of the world. This makes way for the 3rd Ecocamp which will be happening on Nov 22-23 and this time a photo portrait project and coastal cleanup will be among the activity.
