Climate change is a reality that threatens humanity. According to the CC Fifth Assessment Report, “The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely (greater than 95 percent probability) to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented over decades to millennia”. This is particularly alarming since we only have one planet to live in and the care and responsibility for making it last for the next generations lies in the hands of those in the present.
We at SEED4COM (Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities) understand that it is our duty to take care of the environment. That is why for several years and through the leadership of Mr. Dann Diez, founder of SEED4COM, we have constantly been pro-active in creating opportunities not only for us but also for others to actively participate in taking care of the environment.
Here are several ways SEED4COM have been active.
- initiate / participate in cleanup drives
- advocate for zero waste
- initiate / participate in waste recycling and management
- initiate / participate in tree planting / reforestation activities
- initiate / participate in environmental awareness seminars and workshops.
Being the lead convener for the Let’s do it! (Let’s Do It Foundation aims to unite the global community, raise awareness and implement true change to achieve our final goal – a clean and healthy planet.) in the Philippines, SEED4COM held the LDI Regional Conference 2014 / 2nd Asia Conference 2014. The Let’s do it! movement was aimed at gathering volunteers to be the success of the LDI Regional Conference, several Trash Warrior boot camp has been organized to gather and train more trash warriors to initiate their own movement in their communities and later on gather 5 million volunteers for a one day clean up, usually around the 3rd week of September every year. You can learn more about Let’s do it! Philippines here.
Currently, and aside from its own advocacy, SEED4COM is actively participating with the advocacy initiated by other NGOs, such Eco-bricks, tree planting, National Cleanup etc. We understand that taking care of the environment requires group effort and cooperation among those concerned despite the diversity.
