A number of non-profit organizations, volunteers and delegates from across Asia will get together in Cebu, Philippines this year for the staging of the second Let’s Do It! Regional Conference for Asia on November 27-30 2014.
To open the conference on November 27, local cleanup movements, organizations and artists of the EcoArt Exhibit 2014 will be recognized and awarded at the Cebu City Hall, to be participated by more than 50 delegates from Asia and Europe.
The Regional Conference 2014 for Asia is organized by Let’s Do It in partnership with SEED4Com, Clean Up the Philippines Movement, Office of Cebu City Committee on Environment, Province of Cebu, ecoNOVATE and the Rotary Club of Mandaue East which will be held at the San Remigio Beach Club Resort, the official accommodation partner.
The province of Cebu has been one of the first respondents to take action of relief efforts right after the earthquake struck Bohol and the typhoon Haiyan hit most parts of the Visayas region. Previous disasters have made us Filipinos more proactive and aware of what’s going on around our environment. As volunteers from different sectors, we will come together and take action as one to have a better and cleaner world as various environmental issues are starting to knock on our doorstep.
Fastest-expanding civic movements across the globe
Let’s Do It was born in 2008 in a little country of Northern Europe – Estonia, where thousands of people came together to get rid of 10,000 tons of illegal garbage from roadsides, forests and towns, cleaning the entire country in just 5 hours.
The action inspired people from many different countries to do the same. Thus, the network of people, determined to organize massive cleanup actions to clean their home countries, started to grow. By today, almost 200 different inspired cleanup actions, engaging altogether about 10 million volunteers, have already taken place in different countries.
Let’s Do It! is a civic led non-profit and non-political movement. Let’s Do It! World is an accredited member of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In 2012, Let’s Do It! movement, hand in hand with hundreds of volunteers, NGOs and many other groups and organizations, came together to initiate the most ambitious global volunteer action ever – World Cleanup 2012: a series of local, national and regional cleanup events taking place from 24th of March 2012 until 25th of September 2012. By now, the movement has reached 112 countries who are in the Let’s Do It! network.
During the conference, following themes will be discussed and workshops will take place: Let’s Do It World – experiences from different countries, team building, PR / communication, marketing / finances, logistics and mapping, identity of the project, Zero Waste and waste management in the future.
Let’s come together to see how we can all contribute to the clean world goal – uniting 5% of the world’s population in Let’s Do It campaigns – come and speak your mind, your dreams, your experiences and your ideas – so that we can work with these as a unstoppable global team!
